A brace of tries from Ken Sio was not enough for Salford to secure the points in their Betfred Super League match against Wakefield Trinity.

The 29-year-old put the Red Devils in the lead at the start of the second-half, but three consecutive tries from the visitors saw them claim the victory.

Salford who struck first in the 15th minute, with some great play from Tui Lolohea finding winger Sio on the right flank, who returned the ball to Lolohea before the stand-off grounded the ball to give Salford the lead.

Some back and forth play followed afterwards, with Wakefield finally able to get themselves on the scoreboard in the 25th minute.

Trinity stand-off, Max Jowitt, broke the line and grounded the ball between the sticks, converting his own try afterwards.

Half-time: Salford Red Devils 6 Wakefield Trinity 4

Salford started the second-half a lot livelier, taking the lead again in the 45th minute. Sio this time grounded the ball himself in the right corner.

Trinity responded with a second try of their own in the 53rd minute, Tom Johnstone cutting in and grounding the ball close to the sticks to give Jowitt a simple conversion.

And it took only five minutes for Wakefield to increase their lead, winger Bill Tupou in the 58th minute narrowly avoiding being pushed into touch to land the ball in the right corner.

With Salford on the back foot, Wakefield continued to press on and it was Kelepi Tanginoa, who lengthened his side’s lead in the 65th minute with some strong running to the right of the sticks that Salford’s defensive line could not deal with.

A late consolation try for the home team came in the 73rd minute, Sio down the right flank getting himself on the scoresheet again for Salford.
