SCHOOLCHILDREN HAVE ‘AMAZING TIME’ AT FIRST RED DEVILS MATCH

Salford Red Devils were delighted to welcome children from 26 different schools to our Betfred Super League home opener at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Over 750 tickets were requested from schools across Greater Manchester, offering many children their first opportunity to experience live sport at an elite level.

Salford Red Devils director Paul Trainor said: “The response we’ve received from schools has been fantastic.

“Working in education myself, I know what a transformative influence sport can have on a child’s development.

“Watching those amazing feats of athletic dedication, alongside a clear display of teamwork and togetherness is inspiring for them.

“Many of those engaged have already expressed a desire to get involved more going forward and it’s through initiatives like this that we might introduce the next Niall Evalds to the sport.”

The Red Devils provided plenty of entertainment to the onlooking schoolchildren, running in five tries, as they defeated Toronto Wolfpack 24-16.

St Joseph’s RC Headteacher Garry Needle said: “Thanks a million for the free tickets to the game. The children had a beano.

“For many of the children, this was their first experience, not only of rugby league, but of being in a stadium for any event.

“On top of that, we were chosen as a replacement for a group who were supposed to lead out the teams, so not only did they enjoy a brilliant match with some great tries, they also walked out with elite sportsmen. What a great day.”

These thoughts were echoed by Patrick McKenna of Holy Family RC School.

“Many thanks for this wonderful opportunity. Our children had an amazing time and it was great that Salford got the win.

“We were very well looked after and thoroughly enjoyed our day,” said McKenna.
