Two more Red Devils out for the season

Salford Red Devils will be without Lee Mossop and Connor Williams who will miss the remainder of the 2017 season.
Mossop and Williams join forward duo Mark Flanagan and Lama Tasi who are also on the sidelines for all the Red Devils remaining fixtures.
Lee Mossop last featured in the Challenge Cup victory over Hull KR in May but the club can now confirm he won’t appear for the Red Devils again this season.
Connor Williams hasn’t featured for Ian Watson’s side this season and has been struggling with a shoulder injury of late which means he won’t get the opportunity to force his way into the team until next season.
Flanagan has been suffering with a shoulder injury and the club had been hopeful he would make a return however the former St Helens men is now concentrating on recovering for the 2018 season.
Tasi picked up a knee injury in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup semi-final defeat against Wigan following a collision with Warriors hooker Sam Powell.
Despite these four massive losses for the Red Devils Ian Watson and the lads will continue their push for the top four against Wakefield Trinity at the AJ Bell Stadium on Friday 1st September.
Tickets can be purchased over the phone, at the club ticket office or online via the club website. Supporters are reminded that season tickets are valid for all Super 8s home games.

Away fans to occupy East Stand

Having the travelling fans in the East Stand was successfully trialled against Castleford Tigers on Friday 11th August and this continue through the final three home games of the 2017 season.
There has been much discussion on social media regarding the positioning of fans at the AJ Bell Stadium and all options are being taken into consideration ahead of the 2018 season.
Fans from Wakefield Trinity, Huddersfield Giants and St Helens will now watch their sides go up against the Red Devils from the East Stand as all four sides aim to earn a Super League semi-final spot.

Factfile: Wigan Warriors vs Salford Red Devils

The Red Devils last visit to the DW Stadium yielded Salford’s first victory at Wigan in 20 years as Ian Watson’s men came away with a memorable 16-31 victory.
But, Salford have had a torrid time of it at Wigan in previous seasons. The Red Devils last victory, before this season’s triumph, came back in 1997 with a 14-21 victory with four Steve Blakeley goals and a Mark Lee drop-goal being the difference.
It isn’t just on the road against the Warriors where the Red Devils have struggled but with just 2 victories in their last 22 meetings with Wigan it’s fair to say Wigan are Salford’s bogey side. Unfortunately, Salford endured a 17-game losing streak against Wigan between 2006 and 2014.
Narrow defeats to the Warriors in 2016 and 2015 were an improvement on the Red Devils visits to the DW Stadium in earlier seasons. Salford conceded 38 points or more in five consecutive visits to the DW.
The Red Devils do have several former Warriors in the side with Lee Mossop, Mark Flanagan and Logan Tomkins all having donned the Cherry and White of Wigan at some point.
Flanagan featured for the Warriors in 2009 before moving to NRL side Wests Tigers while Mossop and Tomkins had longer spells with Wigan. Tomkins spent four years with the Warriors with one being spent on loan with the Red Devils before the move was made permanent in 2016 while his brothers Sam and Joel still represent Wigan however only Sam is in this weekend’s matchday squad.
Mossop also joined Salford from Wigan however his move came at the start of this season. The former England international won both the Challenge Cup and Super League with the Warriors throughout two spells with the club spanning seven seasons which were split by a year in Australia with the Parramatta Eels.
Wigan and Salford have met on three occasion this season with Wigan winning twice and the Red Devils earning one victory. Both sides picked up wins on the oppositions patch before Wigan knocked off the Red Devils at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in last month’s Ladbrokes Challenge Cup semi-final.
Greg Johnson has scored in two of the three meetings this season for Ian Watson’s side while Niall Evalds grabbed a brace in the visit to the DW earlier in the season. However, it is Oliver Gildart who has dominated this fixture in 2017 scoring four tries against the Red Devils this season.
Fans can still purchase tickets for Friday night’s game against Wigan at the DW Stadium. Supporters are also reminded that they can now buy tickets for all of the Red Devils home Super 8s games against Wakefield, Huddersfield and St Helens. Season tickets are valid for all Super 8s home games.

Daryl Powell – "We'll have to be at our best"

Salford Red Devils host league leaders Castleford in their first Super 8s home game and Tigers head coach Daryl Powell knows that Ian Watson’s side pose a real threat despite their recent struggles.
Powell said: “They’re a good side they’ve lost a couple of games recently obviously but they’ve been games they’ve been fighting hard.
“They’ve just been in a Challenge cup semi-final that Wigan ended getting over the top of them in we know ourselves cup semi-finals can create all sorts of difficulties around them – win or lose.
“It’s been tough for them but they’re still battling they’ve been level going into the second halves of games then teams have got away from them a little bit towards the backend.
“They’ll be a great challenge for us and we’re mindful that we’ll have to be at our best to get over the top of them.”
Powell, whose Castleford side look favourites to win both the league leaders shield and the Super League Grand Final, pointed out a few key players for the Red Devils.
“They’ve got a lot of ball movement in them they’ve got some smart players and a really physical pack.
“Their half-backs are key. Michael Dobson’s been missing recently and Gareth O’Brien’s been missing recently they’ve not been playing as much football and Dobson’s kicking game is key.
“Robert Lui – he’s a very good half-back as well they’re tough with Ben Murdoch-Masila and they’ve just signed Manu Vatuvei on the wing who’s a big old human being.
“So, they’ve got lots of threats and it’ll be a tough game.
“We’ll concentrate on ourselves but, obviously, we’re mindful of the threat they pose.”
Fans can buy tickets from the club’s ticket office prior to kick-off. Supporters are also reminded that the Raging Bull merchandise stand will be outside the ground before the game.
