Salford Red Devils new acquisition Adam Lawton is hungry to get back out on the field and prove himself at the AJ Bell Stadium.
Lawton has had some time away from professional Rugby League before joining Salford but made a huge impact when he arrived on the scene four years ago.
“I’ve definitely got a point to prove,” Lawton said.
He added: “I have to go that extra yard in comparison to last time. I was only 20 when I came onto the scene with Widnes Vikings, so now hopefully I’ve matured a little and gained a bit more experience.
“I’m hopeful I can replicate the performances that helped me break through at Widnes and I’m looking to go one better than I did back in 2014. I have to make a name for myself again.
“I know it’s going to take me a bit of time to get up to speed, there’s no doubting that. But, our Head of Strength and Conditioning, Greg Brown, is one of the best in the business and the backroom team are brilliant so I have every faith they can get me fit and ready for the 2019 season.
“That first tackle is going to pretty special.”

Salford Red Devils stars Junior Sa’u and Joey Lussick were in attendance at Langworthy Reds’ annual awards evening on Saturday night.
The evening was a celebration of all Langworthy Reds’ age groups from under 7’s through to the open age and both Red Devils were impressed by the size of Langworthy Reds.
Langworthy Reds said: “It’s great that Junior Sa’u and Joey Lussick could come down to present the awards in their free time – it’s very much appreciated.
“The looks on the kids’ faces when they walked in was brilliant. For two of their heroes to present them with a trophy is what dreams are made of.
“It’s things like this that are helping the Club engage with the community and we can only thank Junior, Joey, Salford Red Devils and Sparta Lightning Services for making it happen.”
Joey Lussick said: “This is bigger than my amateur Club back home.”
Junior Sa’u said: “I have never seen an amateur Club this size.”
And, both Red Devils thanked the local community Club for inviting them on social media.

Following the first week of pre-season training, Head Coach Ian Watson gave us an update on his squad and focused on how some of the new signings are settling in.
Adam Lawton and Gil Dudson both arrived at the AJ Bell Stadium to begin pre-season training last week and both have impressed the Head Coach.
Watson said: “Adam [Lawton] has been good. He’s finding it tough as he’s been out of the game for a little while so to come back into a Super League environment isn’t easy.
“He had his first real day last week where we were on the field, in the gym and did a little bit on the mats too.
“Gil [Dudson] has settled in really well and has come into camp in really good condition. We know what Gil is all about as a player – he can create offloads, bust tackles and get you quick play-the-balls and he has certainly come in the right condition to set himself up for a good season.”
Salford Red Devils also brought try-scoring back Ken Sio to the Club in the off-season and while the Kiwi isn’t with the squad currently, he is expected to join them in the coming days.
Watson said: “Ken [Sio] has had his visa appointment on Friday, so he’ll get that then it’s normally five to seven days but hopefully in the next couple of weeks he’ll be over here and ripping in with the rest of the lads.
“We’ve been in touch with Ken and he has been set a programme, so he isn’t missing out on any of the training.”
Other than Sio, the other two absentees in week one of pre-season were Niall Evalds and Tyrone McCarthy following their international exploits with England Knights and Ireland, respectively.
Watson said: “Niall [Evalds] played the one game in Papua New Guinea and also did a lot of travelling over there as well.
“Tyrone [McCarthy] has played three games for Ireland. They’re all at different stages but Niall will be back in with us next week and Tyrone will come back in next week, but he’ll be on a lifting programme more than on the field.”
Salford Red Devils are pleased to confirm the signing of Gil Dudson on a two-year deal.
Dudson came through the ranks at North Wales Crusaders before signing for Wigan Warriors in 2012. The powerful forward would go on to make almost 50 appearances for the Warriors including their 2013 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup final triumph against Hull FC.
The 28-year-old spent three seasons with Widnes and became an integral part of the first team at the Vikings. Dudson has also earned 15 caps for the Welsh National team.
Salford Red Devils Head Coach, Ian Watson, said: “Gil is a player I’ve known for a long through the Welsh National side and is a player who always gives 100%.
“He has a good skill level but more importantly as a front-rower he has an aggression and competitive attitude to win his battles which is what we need in our middles.
“I know Gil will come in and add to the ‘team first’ mentality that we have here at Salford Red Devils.
“I can’t wait for him to get started.”
Salford Red Devils Director of Rugby and Operations, Ian Blease, said: “We’re delighted to have got another signing over the line and bring Gil here to Salford Red Devils.
“Gil has come through a strong and competitive system at Wigan Warriors and this signing is another step in the right direction for the Club.
“Gil is one of three forwards we’ve added over the last week which will only improve the competition for places throughout the upcoming season.
“Season Ticket sales and Squad Builder memberships are continuing to rise, and we need the Salford Red Devils fans to continue to buy-in as this will allow us to sign more players.”
Salford Red Devils are pleased to confirm the re-signing of Jansin Turgut following a successful short-term stint with the Club at the end of the 2018 season.
Turgut spent time with Hull FC between 2015 and 2018 as well as enjoying loan spells with Featherstone Rovers and Doncaster RLFC before joining the Red Devils.
Salford Red Devils Head Coach, Ian Watson, said: “Jansin is a young middle with Betfred Super League experience who when coming in at The Qualifiers stage last year showed glimpses of his versatility, ability & aggression.
“Jansin is also a former England Academy captain who possesses great potential and hopefully he can fulfil that potential here at Salford Red Devils. Jansin brings an extra level of competition to our squad & is determined to position himself as a starting player.”
Salford Red Devils Director of Rugby and Operations, Ian Blease, said: “We’re really pleased to get Jansin over the line for at least another season.
“Jansin came in for the closing stages of the 2018 season and really bolstered our squad and made a great impression when he featured against London and Leeds. He showed a desire, attitude and hunger to perform for the Club which made us want to keep him on for the 2019 season.
“He adds some competition for places in our forwards and we’re hoping he is the first of a few more signings in the middles.”
Turgut will link up with the Red Devils on the first day of pre-season tomorrow.
Salford Red Devils are pleased to confirm that CD Brick & Stone will sponsor winger Greg Johnson throughout the 2019 season.
Tony Pugh and his father, who are partners within CD Brick & Stone, are massive Salford Red Devils fans and wanted to help the Club by sponsoring in the 2019 season.
Tony Pugh, of CD Brick & Stone, said: “We’ve been involved with the Club previously in the 1990’s and we’re really pleased to be back involved ahead of a massive season.
“We’ve got a yard in Leigh from which we sell a range of cast stone products mainly to building merchants but also to the general public.
“Ian Blease got in touch with me and mentioned the possibility of sponsoring Greg Johnson for the 2019 season and we were pleased to come to an agreement.
“Greg’s a fantastic winger and I’m hoping he scores plenty of tries next season. It’s great to be back in partnership with Salford Red Devils.”
Director of Rugby and Operations, Ian Blease, said: “We’re really happy that CD Brick & Stone have come on board this year to sponsor Greg Johnson.
“CD Brick & Stone are a new sponsor for the 2019 season which is fantastic. It’s always great to bring in new partners as this will only help develop the Club and spread the word about Salford Red Devils.
“The Club is working extremely hard in the commercial department to bring in more businesses such as CD Brick & Stone to partner the Club and help us build success together.
“We hope Tony and the people at CD Brick and Stone enjoy the 2019 season and see their player – Greg Johnson – put in some great performances.”
CD Brick & Stone are suppliers of bricks, brick specialists and also the largest stockists of quality cast stone products. This is all available from their yard in Leigh, Greater Manchester.

Salford Red Devils are delighted to confirm the signing of prolific try-scoring winger Ken Sio on a three-year deal.
The Australian winger spent time in the Betfred Super League with Hull Kingston Rovers in 2015 and 2016 scoring 26 tries for the Robins.
Sio has spent the last two seasons with NRL side Newcastle Knights crossing for 17 tries in 41 appearances and made his name for Parramatta Eels scoring 37 tries in 57 appearances between 2011 and 2014.
Salford Red Devils Head Coach, Ian Watson, said: “We are delighted to add Ken to our team and would like to welcome his wife and children to Salford.
“This signing is an outstanding capture for the Club as Ken is a player who can play full-back, winger and centre and comes with great experience.
“Ken is a fantastic person with an excellent work ethic which is essential in our environment here at Salford Red Devils.
“His all-round ability and track record as a proven finisher in both the Super League and NRL will only add to our back line and help us build momentum as we head into the 2019 season.”
Director of Rugby and Operations, Ian Blease, said: “We’re really pleased to have been able to bring in a player of Ken’s quality ahead of the 2019 season.
“Ken is a powerful, pacey winger or centre with a terrific try-scoring record and we’re really excited to see him play in the famous shirt for Salford.
“A lot of hard work has gone in behind the scenes to get this deal over the line and I know we again beat off strong competition for Ken from other Super League clubs. I’m confident that this will be the first of a number of signings which will help bolster our squad for next year.
“It is important that the Salford Red Devils supporters continue to get behind the Club by purchasing their Season Tickets and signing up to our Squad Builder scheme so that we can continue to make signings such as this.
“I’d like to personally thank all the fans who have purchased their Season Tickets and Squad Builder memberships already – it is very much appreciated.”
Yesterday the 2019 Betfred Super League fixtures were confirmed, and Salford Red Devils will start the season away at Huddersfield Giants before hosting newly promoted London Broncos.
The Chief Executive of Super League Europe, Robert Elstone, is excited to see a new chapter in the competition’s history begin.
Elstone said: “The 2019 season will mark a change of direction for the Super League, and the start of exciting new beginnings.
“We want our fans to be really excited about that first weekend, and how better to do that than with a Saints-Wigan derby, pitting the champions against their local rivals who were also last year’s League Leaders? And then to follow it up with a Hull derby?
“We’re equally excited about the extra Saturday games which our broadcast partners at Sky Sports are showing in the early stages of the season, allowing the drama of the opening round of matches to unfold throughout the weekend.
“Throw in the World Club Challenge between Wigan Warriors and the Sydney Roosters, the unique appeal and challenge of Super League’s Easter weekend – and of course the season builds to a real climax with the battle for places in the Top Five Play-Offs, building to the Betfred Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford.”
