Red Devils Slay St Helens

It was a night to remember for the Red Devils as the squad put right the wrongs of last week and put in a fantastic performance at the AJ Bell Stadium.
In their first home game of 2016, Salford outshone St Helens to win by an impressive 44-10.
An error from a high ball by Saints let the home side in early through Greg Johnson. Josh Griffin successfully kicked his first of conversions. Just minutes later Craig Kopczak scored in the centre field to further the lead, before Man of the Match Rob Lui danced his way through the Saints defence straight from a scrum to score. Michael Dobson kicked his first of conversions.
Saints responded with a try through prop Alex Walmsley who forced his way over the line under the sticks. Luke Walsh kicked his only successful conversion of the night.
The Red Devils made sure it wouldn’t be easy for St Helens to get back in the game as Dobson successfully kicked a penalty goal from 20m out.
Phil Joseph looked to be over moments later but the video referee deemed it to be no try. Salford weren’t done yet though as Justin Carney made a fantastic break down the right wing and then offloaded to Evalds who was tackled 20m out from the line. St Helens scrum-half Luke Walsh was then sin-binned with 10 minutes of the half remaining for interfering with the play of the ball.
A great bit of play from the home side almost saw them further the lead again as Josh Griffin passed out wide to Greg Johnson who just couldn’t complete the move and knocked on. It wasn’t long before the Red Devils were over again as Niall Evalds jumped on the end of a fantastic run by Ben Murdoch-Masila to score. Rob Lui crossed just before half time to further the lead even more.
Half Time Score: Salford Red Devils 32-6 St Helens
If anyone thought that St Helens would make a second half comeback they were wrong as the Red Devils started the second half with as much determination and skill as the first. Adam Walne stretched over the line on 42 minutes right in front of The Shed. Michael Dobson would further the lead from an impressive dummy before St Helens scored a commiseration second try through Adam Swift.
With ten minutes of the game remaining Ben Murdoch-Masila looked to have touched the ball down despite having numerous St Helens players attempting to hold him down but the video referee deemed it a no try.
Niall Evalds scored his second of the game to complete the impressive display.

Hull FC 42-20 Red Devils

It was not the opening night the Red Devils were looking for as they failed to find any way to stop Hull FC running out victors at the KC Stadium.
A series of errors ended up costing Ian Watson’s men dearly but they have a quick chance to right the wrong in Thursday’s home opener against St Helens.
